Tobacco Control
Tobacco smoking kills more than 6 million people every year, or roughly one in ten persons in the world. Effective measures for countering this are addressed in the WHO Framework Convention on Tobacco Control (FCTC) to which 181 countries are party to. Doctors and health professionals have an essential role in countering this epidemic.
WYDO engages in 3 activities related to tobacco control:
- Annual celebration of World No-Tobacco Day (31st May)
- Smoking cessation brief advice material (in development)
- Increase awareness among young doctors regarding the interference of the tobacco industry (in development)
